How We Calculate This
Simple syrup is made by dissolving sugar in water. The ratio determines the sweetness and consistency.
Ratios
- Standard (1:1): Equal parts sugar and water by weight. Yields ~1.6x the water volume.
- Rich (2:1): Two parts sugar to one part water by weight. Yields ~2.2x the water volume.
Method
- Combine sugar and water in a saucepan
- Heat gently, stirring until sugar dissolves completely
- Do not let it boil vigorously
- Cool completely before bottling
- Store in a clean, sealed container in the fridge
