How We Calculate This
This calculator divides your total batch volume by the usable capacity of each container (total volume minus headspace), then rounds up to give you the number of containers needed.
The Calculation
- Fillable volume = Container size - headspace
- Containers needed = Batch volume / fillable volume (rounded up)
- Extra containers = 10% of total or minimum 1
Headspace Guidelines
- Liquid, jam, chutney: ~5mm (2% of volume)
- Whole fruit in syrup: ~10mm (5% of volume)
